Kontera Ads
You may have noticed that certain words on this site have a double-underline. These are ads from Kontera. The company has developed a javascript application to choose words and phrases for which they may have a useful advertisement. If you wish to see what they have to offer, you can mouse over the link. If you are uninterested in any offers, simply do not roll your mouse over the double-underlined words and you will not be bothered.

I, personally, am not a big fan of advertising. It bothers me when advertisements are shoved down my throat. Advertisements; however, are necessary on the web and can oftentimes be very useful. Google’s Adsense program is a good one, and I trialled their ads on this site. I tried to integrate them nicely with the site’s overall style. I definitely did not want this site to turn into one of those sites that has Google Adsense advertising all over the page.
The ads cluttered the site and took away from it, even after my best efforts to prevent this. I want this site to be simple, and would love to defray at least some of the cost of my hosting. Kontera’s advertisements let me do just that. It gives you, the reader, a choice whether or not you would like to see the ads making you more likely to look at and click on ads that you are genuinely interested in. It seems to me that Kontera is a win-win-win solution. I can hopefully defray some of my hosting costs, you can look at and respond to advertsements that you are genuinely interested in, and advertisers will be glad to find people truly interested in their wares.
